U2 TRIBUTE BAND
Few tribute bands can boast direct praise from the band they are emulating. U2-2 is one such band:
U2-2 were formed by current members in 1993 under the name 'Achtung Baby'. During the 90's, the the band quickly became the Greatest tribute to U2 in the World.
A Truly 'look-a-like sound-a-like', the band played every major town in Britain & Ireland and completed successful tours of Europe, The Channel islands and the Middle East, many of the gigs were beamed on numerous TV show and live radio sessions, some world wide. The Band played regular sell out shows in Dudley's, 'Robin' 'JB's' & London, 'Venue' 'Forum' and had success with sell out shows in Coleraine, Belfast, Sligo & Cork. Their Largest show in Ireland was performed at the 'Point Depot' in Dublin to over 7,000 people in 1997 with Wayne Taylor on Vocals. The band toured Portugal for two tours and played to massive crowds of up to 10,000 people per show.
Back in Holland, as Guests of the Zooropean Fanzine, the Band got to play alongside U2 at the massive 'Feyenoored Stadium' in Rotterdam. Travelling in Style in their own 'Popmart' tour bus, the band were accidentally led into U2's Changing rooms by mistake. Later that evening, the band watched a private rendition of the song 'One' which was being beamed live to Britain, for that nights Top of the Pops. The Band also posed for photos on the Trabant cars which were used for the album 'Achtung Baby' album cover. Free tickets are issed to the band for U2's First Gig in Europe during 98 to 99. The Band Play highly successful shows across Britain and travel to the Middle East to Play 'Diplomats' Hotel, more Irish dates follow, from Belfast to Cork and the band became regulars at the Dublins 'Olympia Theatre'
The Band receive direct praise from Bono and are generally still regarded as the Official U2 tribute.
By Christmas 99' all the Original members to pursue careers as Original artists.
In Late 2008 Luke Pepper reforms the 'Original Achtung Baby' and their first shows are a sell out. Still finding their feet after eight years away the from the tribute scene, Luke and Steve are joined on vocals by Frank Bride, with Andy Bott taking up the role of Larry Mullen Jnr. The band decide to change to the name 'U2-2', as nobody likes the name 'Original Achtung Baby' including U2 themselves.
Gigs in 2009 are a great success & the band are choosen by Blackberry to do promotional work for the U2 360 tour. The band consolidate gigs in Ireland and once again becomes Eire's favorite U2 tribute show. On August the 20th, as the part of the pre Don Valley Experience, U2-2 play in Meadowhall and are interviewed by BBC1 & ITV1. Lots of people think it really is U2 playing and the band pose for countless photos with U2 fans who are on their way to the stadium.
The band are chosen by Sine FM radio to launch their station in Doncaster. In November 2009, the band play Ireland visiting Galway, Limerick and Cork. A week later, the band are back in Yorkshire to play a charity gig for Amnesty International at Montgomery Hall. To round the year off, the band play Dickins Live and the night is enjoyed by all.
In February, the lads are back in Ireland for a four day tour, finding time to have a photo session on the Montenotte Hotel roof in Cork; the same location U2 had chosen for their first promotional photos in the late 1970s.
